Nunkuwarrin Yunti is the largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in metropolitan Adelaide. We provide a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to access services, guided by our values of Caring, Community, Communication and Consistency.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced General Practitioner, Primary Care Services to provide comprehensive, culturally safe, and preventative medical care within a vibrant primary health care setting. In this leadership role, you will work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and organisational programs to support integrated, client-centred care that makes a real difference.

 

Job Description

About the Role

You will:

  • Providing comprehensive, culturally safe, and preventative medical care within a primary health care setting
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and across organisational programs to support integrated client care
  • Supporting health promotion, early intervention, and chronic disease management initiatives
  • Educating and supporting clients to empower self-management of ongoing health conditions
  • Contributing to clinical governance, practice standards, and continuous quality improvement activities
  • Liaising with allied health professionals, visiting specialists, and external agencies to ensure coordinated care and appropriate models of practice
  • Using clinical and information systems to support decision-making, evaluate outcomes, and improve service delivery
  • Participating in effective communication and education initiatives within the PCS program

 

About You

You bring:

  • Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA) Medical Board of Australia with FRACGP or equivalent qualification.
  • Hold membership of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or appropriate professional body.
  • Hold a current Health Insurance Commission unrestricted provider number, relevant eHealth registrations and professional indemnity insurance.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the contemporary issues facing Aboriginal people and the impacts these issues have on Indigenous Australian societies and cultures; and
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated understanding of all relevant guidelines for Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Dependence.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a high level of professional judgement and clinical competence in a multi-disciplinary setting and a sound understanding of all aspects of clinical governance.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant Medicare schedules, billing processes and compliance management within MBS Guidelines.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, work under pressure in a complex busy workplace to assess priorities and meet deadlines and respond to difficult and/or stressful situations in a calm, sensitive and professional manner.
  • Proven ability to contribute effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Significant experience in the use of Communicare or other electronic client health information management system to document client care (e.g. Medical Director or Best Practice).
  • Proven well-developed written and verbal communication skills and high-level ability to communicate effectively with a range of health professionals and administrative staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict, solve problems and negotiate successful outcomes.

Desired Skills and Experience

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working on community primary health care projects or programs that demonstrate best practice outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
